OCA, Caribbean Olympic Committees strengthen sports cooperation

The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and the Association of National Olympic Committees of the Caribbean have formalized a significant partnership aimed at enhancing sports cooperation between the two regions. OCA President Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani and Keith Joseph, President of the Caribbean body, signed a six-year agreement in Barcelona, Spain, that will run from 2026 through 2032, with an option for extension.

This collaboration is designed to facilitate the exchange of expertise in crucial areas such as sports event organization, athlete development, and overall sports management. The agreement also outlines plans for joint seminars, conferences, and other scientific and educational programs focused on sports. Sheikh Joaan, who also leads the Qatar Olympic Committee, emphasized that both organizations will share information and knowledge to support the continuous growth of sports.

The partnership unites the OCA's 45 National Olympic Committees with the Caribbean organization's 32 member countries and territories. This broadens the scope for cooperation and the sharing of valuable sporting experiences. The initiative is expected to significantly contribute to the development of athletes and sports professionals, while simultaneously creating new avenues for both regions to learn from each other's successes and challenges in organizing and advancing sports.
