OFI Coach Urges Focus Ahead of Crucial Europa League Second Leg

OFI travels to Sofia with a commanding 3-0 lead from the first leg of their Europa League playoff tie against CSKA Sofia. The Cretan team stands on the brink of advancing to the League Phase of the competition, but coach Christos Kontis is demanding absolute concentration from his players.

Kontis wants his team to play with confidence and organization, minimizing the opponent's chances while improving their own defensive structure. He stressed that the second leg must be approached as if the score were 0-0. "If we consider the 3-0 an advantage, it's true, but it doesn't give us the security to follow the opponent's rhythm," Kontis stated. He believes qualification will be decided on the field and that winning such matches is crucial for building a winning mentality within the team.

The coach anticipates a different tactical approach from CSKA Sofia in the home leg. He expects the Bulgarian side to press intensely and play a more aggressive game, possibly in a 3-5-2 formation, which he described as an offensive system. "We must put problems in front of the opponent. CSKA will play differently, they will press a lot, they will make things difficult for us," Kontis warned.

Despite the potential challenges, Kontis highlighted OFI's established "sporting identity" over the past 8-9 months. He emphasized that the team's playing style and core ideas remain consistent, regardless of the opponent's strength. While acknowledging that strategies might be adjusted slightly, the team's fundamental approach and desire to be recognized for their distinct style will not change.
