Ogun Poly: Police launch rescue operations after five students abducted

The Ogun State Police Command has initiated rescue operations for five students abducted from a private hostel near Gateway ICT Polytechnic in Saapade, Nigeria. The students were taken by gunmen during an attack on the hostel located in Ipara, an area adjacent to the institution's main campus.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed that a distress report was received shortly after the Wednesday night attack. In response, tactical police teams and intelligence operatives were immediately deployed to the area. Their mission is to track the kidnappers, locate the abducted students, and ensure their safe return, while also apprehending those responsible.

While the police are still working to verify the exact number of students abducted, the Students’ Union Government (SUG) has confirmed that five students were taken. The SUG issued a statement signed by its president, general secretary, and public relations officer, clarifying the details of the incident which occurred around 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Police are urging the public to disregard speculative reports circulating on social media, warning that the dissemination of inaccurate information could jeopardize ongoing rescue efforts and investigations. They are appealing to residents to remain calm and provide any credible information that could assist the security agencies.
