Ogun State to Host 2027 Lions Club International Convention; Deputy Governor Backs New DG

Ogun State Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele has pledged the state government's full backing for the newly installed District Governor of Lions Club International, District 404B4, Patience Okosi Ngene. The Deputy Governor also confirmed that Abeokuta, the state capital, will serve as the host city for the 2027 Multiple District Convention.

I first met her about 13 to 14 years ago when I was District Cabinet Secretary II. She was a Region Chair at the time. We worked very well together. She chartered a new club and supported the redistricting of District 404B as it was then.

Speaking at a fundraising and public presentation event for DG Ngene, Salako-Oyedele, herself a Lion, lauded the new district governor as a leader possessing the "experience, energy, and commitment" necessary to advance humanitarian efforts across the district. She recalled working with Ngene over a decade ago, noting her role in chartering a new club and supporting redistricting efforts, and expressed confidence in her ability to lead.

"Lionism is ultimately about service and making a difference in the lives of others," the Deputy Governor stated, emphasizing the core mission of the organization. "And I’m confident that Lion Patience will bring her experience, her energy, and her commitment to this district as she leads it for the next year."

And I can see that the passion is still in her so that 13, 14 years down the line, she is today being presented to the Lions of Nigeria as a District Governor in Lions Club 404B4.

In a significant announcement, Salako-Oyedele assured the assembled Lions, traditional rulers, and dignitaries that Ogun State is prepared to welcome Nigerian Lions in 2027. "I’m reliably informed that the Lions are coming to Abeokuta, and I can assure you that we will roll out the red carpet to welcome you to Abeokuta next year as you come for the multi-district convention," she declared, looking forward to a memorable event.

The Deputy Governor also took the opportunity to commend the outgoing District Governor, Lion Adebowale Afolayan, for his service during the district's formative year. She acknowledged the challenges of leading a new district and praised Afolayan for his efforts in advancing its mission.
