OHL approves Barrie Colts sale to Toronto-area businessman John Careri

The Ontario Hockey League (OHL) announced Friday the approval of the Barrie Colts' sale to John Careri, a prominent Toronto-area businessman, investor, and sports executive. Careri, who also serves as president and CEO of JONVIC Capital Inc., officially takes the reins of the OHL franchise.

Careri brings a wealth of experience to the Colts, owning the Ontario Junior Hockey League's Buckland Cup champion Toronto Patriots and Everest Academy, a private athletic and academic school in Vaughan, Ontario. His acquisition marks a new chapter for the Colts, who have enjoyed over 30 years of competitiveness in the league.

He assumes majority ownership from Howie Campbell, who purchased the team in 2006. Under Campbell's tenure, the Colts achieved Eastern Conference championships in 2010, 2013, and 2026. OHL Commissioner Bryan Crawford expressed enthusiasm for Careri's leadership, citing his passion for the game, commitment to developing student-athletes, and proven business acumen.
