Oloyede’s class act in public relations

Professor Isha'q Oloyede is nearing the end of his term as Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB), earning accolades for his adept handling of public relations and navigating Nigeria's media landscape. He views media criticism not as harmful but as a catalyst for public officials to improve service and remain accountable to citizens.

During a meeting introducing his successor, Prof. Segun Aina, Oloyede was described by JAMB's media consultant, Najeem Jimoh, as a "good brand" whose competence and transparency made his work accessible and responsive to journalists. This approach is contrasted with the often tumultuous relationship between former U.S. President Donald Trump and his communications staff.

He says he does not mind it whenever the media criticises him, because he has found out that media men mean no harm, but only want him, or any other public official for that matter, to deliver better service and acknowledge that public officials will be held accountable to Nigerian citizens.

Oloyede's tenure has been marked by significant financial contributions to the federal government. In his second year alone, he remitted N7.8 billion. From 2018 to the end of 2025, JAMB, after reducing its examination fees, remitted a total of N29.4 billion. This figure starkly contrasts with the mere N50 million to N60 million remitted in JAMB's entire first 38 years of existence.

While JAMB was not initially established as a revenue-generating agency, Oloyede has demonstrated that efficient management and integrity can lead to profitability even in non-commercial entities. His administration also took action when a candidate falsified her examination score to win an award, showcasing a commitment to upholding the integrity of the examination process.

Oloyede not only demonstrated a high level of competence and innovative genius as he carried out his duties as JAMB registrar, but he also ran the shop most transparently and made himself easily accessible and responsive to journalists of all ranks that may have any aught or angst against him or JAMB.
