Oman adopts updated GCC technical regulation for digital radio receivers

Oman has adopted an updated GCC technical regulation for terrestrial digital audio broadcasting (T-DAB+) receivers, marking a significant step in enhancing radio reception quality. The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, is spearheading this initiative.

The updated regulation, GSO 2693:2026, sets forth modern technical requirements for T-DAB+/FM/AM receivers. This ensures that all radio reception devices available in the market meet higher performance and quality standards, keeping pace with evolving global broadcasting technologies.

Authorities state the revised regulation is designed to boost the quality and efficiency of radio receivers and safeguard consumers. It mandates that products sold in Oman comply with approved technical specifications. The regulation applies to a broad spectrum of stakeholders, including manufacturers, producers, importers, and retailers, as well as the products and smart systems they offer.

This updated framework covers a wide array of devices, from home and portable radios to vehicle-integrated systems and multi-function smart devices with radio reception capabilities. The implementation of this regulation signifies a commitment to improving digital broadcasting equipment quality across the Gulf region, promoting advanced radio technologies, and enhancing the overall user experience.
