Oman and China explore investment partnerships in economic and free zones

Oman and China's Hainan Province are looking to turn cooperation in economic and free zones into concrete investment partnerships. The discussions took place in Muscat between Qais bin Mohammed Al Yousef, chairman of Oman's Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones, and a delegation led by Bao Tian, executive vice governor of Hainan Province.

The meeting reviewed investment opportunities in the special economic zones, free zones and industrial cities overseen by the Omani authority. Officials also explored potential cooperation with Hainan and possible partnerships between companies and institutions from both sides in promising economic and industrial sectors.

The discussions focused on practical conditions for investment. The two sides stressed the need for coordination, easier procedures and a supportive environment that involves economic zones, companies and the private sector in developing and implementing trade and investment projects.

They also highlighted the value of exchanging experience in developing and managing specialized zones, improving links between zones and ports, building industrial clusters and attracting high-quality investment. Oman presented the investment environment offered by its zones, including its strategic location, regulatory flexibility, access to regional and global markets, and network of ports, airports and integrated infrastructure.

The talks also addressed stronger links between the Omani and Hainanese business communities. Officials discussed opportunities for Chinese companies to invest and expand in Oman, with the stated aim of encouraging industrial integration and the transfer of knowledge and modern technologies. Both sides agreed on the importance of continued coordination, expertise-sharing and the search for new areas of partnership.
