Oman basketball team starts Asian Cup qualifiers against Kuwait

Oman's senior national basketball team is set to launch its bid for the 2029 Asian Cup finals when it competes in the first window of preliminary qualifiers starting Wednesday. The team faces Kuwait in its opening match in Group A of the West Asia zone.

The group-stage matches, hosted by the United Arab Emirates (UAE), will run until August 31. Oman is competing in a challenging group that also features the UAE, Bahrain, and Nepal. The teams will play in a single-round robin format, with the top three advancing to the second round of the preliminary qualifiers.

To prepare for the tournament, the Omani national team concluded an external training camp in Dubai on August 16. The camp involved rigorous training sessions and four friendly matches. The team achieved victories against Sharjah Club (56–52), Maxim Academy (55–53), and Jam Academy (64–58), aiming to enhance their physical and technical readiness while building team cohesion.
