Oman consumer authority seizes 18,000 expired goods, 54,000 tobacco packs in one week

Oman's Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) has intensified its enforcement actions, seizing more than 18,000 expired products and confiscating nearly 54,000 packs of tobacco and banned cigarettes in the week ending July 25, 2026. These figures were part of the authority's weekly performance report, which also detailed consumer protection initiatives across various governorates.

The CPA launched its "Your Awareness, Your Safety" campaign during the Dhofar Khareef Season to educate the public on consumer rights and safe shopping practices. Inspectors in Muscat and Al Dakhiliyah confiscated over 18,000 expired items from businesses. Simultaneously, authorities in South Al Sharqiyah and North Al Batinah seized approximately 54,000 packs of tobacco products and banned cigarettes as part of efforts to stop the sale of illegal goods.

In addition to product seizures, the CPA announced recall campaigns for 2,266 Lexus vehicles (model years 2019–2023) and 174 BMW vehicles (model years 2022–2025) to address manufacturing defects. The authority also reported successful consumer complaint resolutions in North Al Batinah, where over OMR 4,000 was recovered and a vehicle worth more than OMR 32,000 was replaced.

Furthermore, several commercial establishments in Al Dhahirah and Muscat faced legal consequences for violating consumer protection laws, resulting in fines and compensation orders for affected consumers. The CPA reiterated its commitment to protecting consumer rights through regular inspections, enforcement, and awareness campaigns, urging consumers to report any violations.
