Oman Human Rights Commission promotes awareness during Dhofar festival

The Oman Human Rights Commission (OHRC) has successfully implemented a comprehensive human rights awareness and education program in the Dhofar Governorate. The initiative coincided with the Khareef Dhofar Festival 2026, aiming to foster a deeper understanding and culture of human rights across the Sultanate of Oman.

Reaching a diverse audience, the program benefited over 340 individuals from various societal segments. In collaboration with multiple institutions, the OHRC distributed more than 2,500 awareness and research publications and 104 posters. These materials included research studies on human rights, educational booklets for children addressing abuse and bullying, annual reports, and information on international conventions to which Oman is a signatory. The posters highlighted national protection mechanisms for vulnerable groups like women, children, and persons with disabilities.

The program featured a series of interactive training workshops, integrated with the Ministry of Education's summer learning initiative for students. Specific workshops focused on children's rights and self-protection mechanisms, conducted in partnership with schools and the Bahja Omani Association for Orphans. Engaging activities like "Color and Learn Your Rights" were designed for children.

Further extending its reach, the OHRC organized specialized workshops for Girl Guides at the Ashour Scout Camp and for members of the Omani Special Olympics at the Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex. A seminar promoting humanitarian and human rights work was also held in cooperation with the Social Development Committee in Wilayat Taqah. These efforts align with the OHRC's mandate, established by Royal Decree No. 47/2026, to promote human rights awareness and consolidate its principles throughout Omani society and its institutions.
