Oman Ministry Commends Citizen for Discovering 12kg Meteorite

The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism in Oman has honored a citizen for his initiative in discovering a significant geological find. Saeed bin Humaid Al-Harizi contacted the Ministry after suspecting a rock sample found in the Ramlat Jadila area of the Mitan district in Dhofar Governorate might be a meteorite.

His Excellency Engineer Ibrahim bin Saeed Al-Kharousi, Undersecretary of the Ministry for Heritage, recognized Al-Harizi for his proactive approach and commitment to reporting the potential discovery. The Ministry promptly initiated technical procedures, including laboratory testing, to verify the sample. The tests confirmed that the rock is indeed a stony meteorite, weighing approximately 12 kilograms.
