Oman joins global observance of International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies

Oman is joining countries around the world in observing the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies on 7 September. This year’s theme, “Clean Air for Climate Action,” links efforts to improve air quality with measures to limit climate change.

The Environment Authority says reducing emissions can bring health, environmental and economic benefits at the same time. It is strengthening systems that monitor air quality, track pollution sources and collect and analyze environmental data to support decisions and measures against air pollution.

The authority also regulates emissions from industrial and development activities and monitors compliance with environmental standards. It says modern monitoring technologies are improving the effectiveness of Oman’s air-quality management system.

Oman has a national network for monitoring ambient air quality, with dozens of stations distributed across governorates, industrial zones and other vital areas. Continuous emission-monitoring devices operate at industrial sources, while digital platforms and systems, including the Naqi application, analyze pollution indicators and data in real time.

The observance also emphasizes cooperation among government institutions, the private sector, communities and individuals. Oman frames cleaner air, more efficient use of energy and resources, and low-emission solutions as part of its wider direction toward sustainable development and a low-carbon economy.
