Oman Padel Committee unveils ambitious expansion drive

Oman is intensifying efforts to elevate padel into one of the nation's premier sports, driven by a surge in participation that now exceeds 10,000 players. The Oman Padel Committee (OPC) has unveiled a comprehensive development strategy focused on broadening the sport's reach, nurturing young talent, and enhancing training programs.

The initiative addresses the remarkable global rise of padel, one of the world's fastest-growing sports. Within Oman, more than 100 courts have been constructed, attracting a significant number of male and female players. This expansion underscores padel's rapid emergence in the country's sporting landscape.

Al Numan Sultan Al Nu’amani, OPC Chairman, emphasized the committee's commitment to building a sustainable pathway for padel, from grassroots engagement to elite international competition. The OPC organizes official tournaments, develops technical regulations, prepares athletes and officials, and fosters partnerships with local and international organizations. The long-term vision includes cultivating an Omani generation capable of competing globally while positioning Oman as a recognized destination for international padel events.

Nu’amani stated the committee's plans are guided by the principle of "sport for all," ensuring accessibility across all ages and backgrounds in the Sultanate. Key achievements include establishing a structured domestic tournament system, a steady increase in registered players, and Omani athletes' participation in regional and international competitions. Private sector partnerships are increasingly supporting the sport's development.

Talent identification is a major priority, with promising players monitored through local tournaments and academies before selection for national teams. The OPC is also working to expand court infrastructure beyond Muscat, encourage junior and women's participation, and increase public awareness of competitive pathways. Future plans include hosting larger regional and international events, diversifying funding sources, and embracing innovation for long-term growth.
