Oman reports drone attacks amid Iran's regional escalation

Oman has reported that its territory was targeted by drone attacks in the Musandam region, a strategic enclave bordering the vital Strait of Hormuz. The Omani authorities condemned the actions, describing them as "drone attacks" without immediately specifying their origin. The sultanate has stated it is implementing necessary measures to preserve the country's security and protect its residents.

This incident unfolds amidst a significant escalation of tensions, with Iran reportedly launching offensives against several Gulf nations and Jordan. The drone strikes on Oman follow shortly after Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi visited Muscat for discussions with Omani and Qatari officials concerning the future management of the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran has not yet claimed responsibility for the attacks on Oman.

Qatar, which has been mediating between Washington and Tehran, also experienced Iranian actions, resulting in at least three injuries, including a child, due to shrapnel from intercepted projectiles. Bahrain, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan were also targeted early in the morning by Iran, which claims to have bombed bases hosting U.S. forces in these countries.
