Oman’s Al Balushi Strikes Gold at Muscat Grand Prix

Ali Anwar Al Balushi delivered the headline performance for Oman at the inaugural Oman Athletics Grand Prix, winning the men’s 100 meters in front of a home crowd at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Muscat.

The 24-year-old matched his personal best of 10.07 seconds, narrowly beating American Brandon Hicklin, who took silver in 10.11. Oman’s Mulham Al Balushi claimed bronze in 10.18. Ali Anwar Al Balushi had set his personal best at a meet in the Czech Republic on July 11.

Oman also won the men’s high jump through Fatik Yakoob, who cleared 2.16 meters, and the men’s triple jump through Salem Rawahili, who reached 15.15 meters. Alia Al Mugheri added gold in the women’s high jump with 1.73 meters. She finished ahead of Iraq’s Maryam Abdulelah and Iran’s Asal Golmali.

Other winners included the Dominican Republic’s Liranyi Alonso in the women’s 100 meters, the UAE’s Suleiman Abdulrahman in the men’s 400 meters and Mariam Kareem in the women’s 400 meters. Egypt’s Yousef Bakhit won the men’s shot put, while Malaysia A took the men’s 4x100-meter relay. Sharjah Women’s Club won the women’s relay.

Organized by the Oman Athletics Association, the meeting featured about 300 athletes from 40 countries competing in 23 disciplines. Oman finished with four gold medals, one silver and one bronze.
