Oman's Dhofar Municipality Holds Symposium on Disease Vector Management

Dhofar Municipality in Oman has organized a two-day symposium dedicated to the management and control of disease vectors, with a specific focus on mosquitoes. The event, which commenced today in the Wilayat of Salalah, aims to foster a deeper understanding and application of the most current scientific and practical methodologies in the field of vector control.

The symposium serves as a platform to examine successful strategies implemented both locally and regionally. The objective is to strengthen the capacity of municipalities and relevant authorities in their ongoing efforts to combat disease-carrying insects. A key aspect of the discussions involves the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and other modern technologies into comprehensive vector control programs, promoting the concept of Integrated Vector Management (IVM).

The opening ceremony was graced by the presence of Dr. Said bin Hareb Al Lamki, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for Health Affairs, underscoring the importance of the symposium's agenda. Experts, specialists, and academics from Oman and abroad are participating, contributing their knowledge across five main themes. These themes encompass biological solutions and innovations, integrated management of small biting insects, international experiences in IVM, common vector-borne diseases, and the crucial role of partnerships in vector control efforts.

As part of the opening, Dhofar Municipality presented a visual overview of its dedicated initiatives and progress in combating mosquito populations, showcasing their commitment to public health within the region.
