Oman's Governors Convene to Discuss Cooperation and Decentralization Reforms

The Governors' Forum, bringing together leaders from all of Oman's governorates, convened in Salalah to strengthen institutional cooperation and facilitate the exchange of expertise. The meeting, held at the Dhofar Municipality headquarters, aims to foster synergy among governorates and improve administrative and developmental practices.

HH Sayyid Marwan bin Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar, highlighted the forum as a crucial opportunity for exchanging ideas and learning from the diverse experiences of each governorate. He emphasized the need to transition from reviewing past achievements to charting future aspirations, enhancing the capacity of governorates to shape development policy and utilize their unique resources and advantages.

The forum represents a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas and perspectives, as well as drawing upon the diverse experiences of the various governorates.

A significant agenda item was the deliberation on a proposed reform of Oman's decentralization framework. Developed by a joint team of governorate representatives, the proposal seeks a more practical vision that addresses the needs of the governorates and reinforces their integration. The forum also featured working papers on "His Majesty the Sultan's Award for Governorate Development," which stimulates positive competition, and perspectives on administrative and economic decentralization aimed at empowering governorates to manage local development.
