Ondo begins digital education in 50 secondary schools, trains teachers

Ondo State in Nigeria is spearheading a digital education drive, commencing the digitalization of secondary education across 50 schools. Teachers and students are actively participating in training programs designed to equip them for the evolving educational landscape.

The state government is investing heavily in digital education, with the training of our teachers and students in preparation for the digitalisation of our education system. The training is a continuous process.

Professor Igbekele Ajibefun, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, highlighted the state's significant investment in this area. He noted that a substantial number of teachers have already received training and are expected to impart this knowledge to their students. This training is part of a continuous process initiated last year to prepare schools for a digital transformation.

For the students, when you train the teachers, indirectly you are training the students because the teachers will return to train them.

Ajibefun explained that the government collaborates with technical partners, including Quickens Computer Limited, to supply digital equipment. Approximately 50 public secondary schools have received computer equipment through these partnerships. The Commissioner emphasized that training teachers indirectly benefits students, as educators will then train their pupils.

The Digital Quiz Competition, organized in collaboration with Quickens Computer Limited, serves as a platform to foster digital literacy and academic excellence.
