One Dead, Four Injured in Medellín Soccer Field Shooting; Gang Dispute Suspected

A violent attack on a soccer field in Medellín's Belalcázar neighborhood has resulted in one fatality and four injuries. The incident occurred during a casual soccer match when an individual on a motorcycle reportedly opened fire on the players.

The victim, identified as 29-year-old Santiago Monroy Pizarro, was found with multiple gunshot wounds, including seven to the head and one to the hand. The attack took place around 5:40 p.m. on a field located at the intersection of Calle 103EE and Carrera 63D. The crime is currently under investigation by the authorities, with the CTI investigative unit and the case prosecutor having conducted a technical inspection of the body.

Witness accounts suggest the assailant may have had a brief conversation with one of the victims before opening fire indiscriminately. Among the injured are a 31-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to the foot, a 29-year-old man hit in the thigh, another 31-year-old man, and a 30-year-old man who suffered a knee injury. All injured individuals are receiving medical care.

While the motives are still under investigation, preliminary information points towards a possible internal dispute within the organized criminal group known as 'Toscana.' The Medellín Security Secretariat's Information System for Security and Coexistence (SISC) has provided details of the incident, which was reported via the emergency line 123.
