One Dead in Plane Crash into German Home

One person has died after a small aircraft crashed into the roof of a residential building in Ganderkesee, Lower Saxony, Germany. The incident occurred today, causing a loud bang that startled the town as the plane impacted the house.

According to reports, the cockpit of the aircraft was destroyed, wings broke off, and wreckage scattered on the ground. Emergency services immediately launched a large-scale operation, with firefighters searching the roof from a basket lift while police secured the scene and evacuated houses on the street. Airspace above the crash site was also closed.

Responders initially believed a second person might have been in the plane, but a search using a drone has so far failed to locate anyone else. The family residing in the house was not home when the crash occurred. A structural engineer will assess the building's safety and determine if it is at risk of collapse.

Cranes were expected to attempt to remove the wreckage from the roof, where it was lodged in the staircase, by early afternoon. However, access to the deceased has been hindered by the lodged debris. Flight data indicates the four-seater Tecnam P 2010 TDI aircraft took off from Bremen in the morning, made a brief landing at a small airfield in Ganderkesee, and then departed again minutes before the crash.
