One Dead, Three Injured in Pesquería Hydrocarbon Fire

A fire and explosion at a hydrocarbon storage facility in Pesquería, Nuevo León, claimed one life and injured three others, authorities reported Wednesday. The blaze also left one worker intoxicated.

The incident began around 3:25 p.m. on a road in the Dulces Nombres community. Initially, one person was reported missing, but later a deceased man was found. Three individuals, identified as Miguel Ángel Pérez Nieto, Luis Gerardo Casanova Guillén, and a third unidentified man, suffered second and third-degree burns. They were transported to the IMSS Clinic 67.

Juan Manuel Ruiz González, a 28-year-old security guard at an adjacent company, experienced intoxication symptoms after approaching the scene. Paramedics treated him at the site.

The fire engulfed six semi-trucks, ten semi-fixed containers, and four tank trucks, containing an estimated 420,000 liters of hydrocarbons. This caused a large smoke plume visible across the metropolitan area and several explosions during the emergency. Emergency crews from Nuevo León and surrounding municipalities, along with state and federal agencies, worked to control the fire and secure the area. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
