The political landscape in Johor appears to be shifting in favor of UMNO and Barisan Nasional (BN), with the leadership of Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi cited as a primary driver of this resurgence. According to Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Maslan, the Deputy Chairman of UMNO Johor, Ghazi's personal qualities and administrative style have successfully garnered support across diverse ethnic and age groups. This indicates a growing confidence in the state's young leadership, particularly among the new generation of voters who are embracing the current state government.

Maslan further elaborated that UMNO's strategic inclusivity, exemplified by the return of prominent figures like Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, plays a crucial role in attracting younger members. This open-door policy, coupled with proactive efforts from all 26 UMNO divisions in Johor, has led to a substantial increase in party membership. The Ayer Hitam division, under Datuk Samsolbari Jamali, has been particularly effective in its recruitment drive, contributing significantly to the party's growth.

Johor has emerged as the state with the highest number of new UMNO members, with nearly 14,000 registrations recorded as of May 2.
