OPHK clears Nigerien camel rearer of terrorism links after investigation

The Theatre Command of Operation HADIN KAI has officially cleared an individual, previously reported as a suspected terrorist, confirming that investigations found no affiliation with any known terrorist group. This clarification addresses earlier media reports from July 14, 2026, which concerned an individual intercepted by troops during an operation following an attack on Cross Kauwa.

Captain Mohammed Goni, the Acting Military Information Officer for Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, stated that the troops acted according to established operational procedures. The individual, identified as Aboubakar Muhammad Zein-Nur, also known as Houdairi, was taken into custody for profiling and investigation due to the ongoing security situation and the use of border corridors by terrorist elements for movement and logistics.

Comprehensive intelligence assessments and other investigative processes were conducted. These did not establish any connection between Zein-Nur and terrorist organizations. The statement further revealed that Zein-Nur resides in Shattu Anguba Village in Bosso, Republic of Niger, and works as a camel rearer beyond the River Komadougou.

Operation HADIN KAI emphasized its commitment to due process and thorough security screening for all individuals intercepted under suspicious circumstances. The command aims to distinguish innocent civilians from terrorist elements while denying terrorists freedom of action. It reaffirmed its dedication to professionalism, respect for human rights, and adherence to the rule of law.
