Opposition criticizes Sinaloa interim governor appointment as continuation of previous leader's influence

The designation of Morena legislator Graciela Domínguez Nava as interim governor of Sinaloa has ignited a political firestorm, with the opposition decrying it as a mere continuation of the political group led by the governor with license, Rubén Rocha Moya. PRI Senator Paloma Sánchez was particularly vocal, asserting via social media that the appointment by the Sinaloan Congress represented "no change" for the state.

Sánchez accused the ruling Morena party of hypocrisy. She pointed to the party's previous expressions of discontent regarding Rocha Moya's attempt to reclaim his post, contrasting it with their current action of allowing him to retain influence over the state's government. "Morena's hypocrisy is evident," Sánchez stated. "They said they were annoyed by his return, but today, they continue to allow him to appoint a governor."

Conversely, Ricardo Monreal Ávila, the national coordinator for Morena in the Chamber of Deputies, offered strong backing for Domínguez Nava's selection. Speaking at a press conference, Monreal highlighted her qualities as a federal deputy, describing her as institutional, prudent, careful, and honest. He asserted that the Sinaloan Congress's decision, made by a significant majority of 31 votes against six, was correct and well-considered.

Monreal expressed confidence in Domínguez Nava's ability to govern during her nearly year-long term, predicting she would "give surprises" due to her capacity and experience. He also took the opportunity to comment on Rocha Moya's return to the governorship, acknowledging it as a "mistake" but suggesting that the governor had rectified his decision. The appointment, therefore, remains a point of contention, with the opposition viewing it as a strategic maneuver to maintain existing power structures.
