Opposition plans two days of protests against Milei government

Opposition forces in Argentina are gearing up for a week of significant street demonstrations targeting President Javier Milei's administration. The first major mobilization is scheduled for Thursday, centered around the National Congress, to protest a proposed law on the inviolability of private property. This event is expected to draw a broad coalition of leftist and Peronist organizations, as well as labor unions.

The "La Cámpora" movement has called for participation in the Thursday protest under the slogan "The Malvinas are Argentine, so are water and land." The Workers' Party of the Left-Unity (FIT-U) is also joining the march, having recently held a demonstration against the government's land law. The organization Libres del Sur, part of the Fuerza Patria Peronist front, confirmed its attendance at the Congress protest and previously demonstrated against the property law outside the presidential residence.

Environmental groups are also set to join the protest at Congress, planning a "verdurazo" (vegetable protest) in the square. The second major protest is planned for Friday, marking San Cayetano Day, a traditional day for social movements. The call for this demonstration echoes the 2015 slogan "Land, Housing, and Work." The Union of Popular Economy Workers (UTEP), which includes organizations like Movimiento Evita and Barrios de Pie, is organizing this event. They are protesting against government policies, such as replacing the "Volver al Trabajo" social program with training vouchers, arguing that their work is already established and necessary for supporting communities when the state withdraws.
