Peronist Internal Politics: Fernández Names Kicillof Sole Candidate, Urges Unity

Former Security Minister Aníbal Fernández has declared Axel Kicillof as the "only candidate" for the Peronist party in the upcoming presidential elections. Fernández also insisted that the opposition should cease its demands for "Cristina Libre" (Free Cristina), arguing that the former president is being unjustly held and is innocent.

Fernández claimed he had reviewed the case and found no basis for the charges.

Fernández also directed criticism at the Supreme Court of Justice, accusing it of failing to intervene in Cristina Kirchner's situation. He questioned whether a former president, vice president, senator, and national deputy "deserves that the Court study the merits?" He called for a serious political discussion on the matter, rather than relying on slogans.

Looking ahead to the elections, Fernández believes the Peronist party cannot win alone and must unite with other political factions to effectively challenge Javier Milei.
