Zamora Achieves Absolute Hegemony in Santiago del Estero, Winning All Municipalities

The ruling party in Santiago del Estero, led by national senator Gerardo Zamora, secured an overwhelming victory in the province's municipal elections on Sunday. The officialist Frente Cívico party won all 26 districts where mayors and council members were elected, marking a significant consolidation of power.

Notably, the party triumphed in La Banda, the province's second-largest city, which has historically resisted the zamorista movement in mayoral elections. This victory, alongside a decisive win in the provincial capital, represents a major achievement for Zamora's 23-year hegemony in the province.

Mario Benavente in the Capital and Llamil Abdala in La Banda, both considered proteges of Zamora, led the charge with substantial wins. These successes were mirrored across the province, signaling strong support for Governor Elías Suárez's administration. Suárez, who took office last year with nearly 75% of the vote, saw his governance further validated.

Voter turnout across the province averaged over 70%. In areas where the Frente Cívico presented two candidates, the combined vote share for their nominees surpassed 70%, indicating a strong mandate. La Banda, previously a stronghold of Sergio Massa's allies, saw its current mayor, Roger Nediani, break ties and run without national backing, yet the Frente Cívico still secured victory.

Following the results, Zamora emphasized his provincial autonomy, stating, "Thank you!!! Santiago del Estero, is not for sale, the homeland is not surrendered, and the Malvinas are Argentinian!!" This declaration positions him in opposition to President Javier Milei's administration and reaffirms his firm control over the province.
