OPSU assigns university spots, but website blocks entry

Venezuela's Office for the Planning of the University Sector (OPSU) announced that the system for assigning university placements was active, allowing high school graduates to check their assigned spots and begin the enrollment process. However, shortly after the announcement, students flooded social media with complaints, reporting that the OPSU website was inaccessible and blocking their entry.

Ricardo Ríos, deputy director of OPSU, stated that the assignment algorithm had been adjusted and that students could now consult the official platform. He mentioned that the enrollment phase is managed by individual universities, not OPSU, but confirmed the system's activation. Ríos attributed some delays to the need to accommodate students affected by a recent seismic event who had missed initial registration deadlines.

Despite OPSU's assurances, numerous aspiring higher education students reported persistent technical difficulties. They described the website either failing to load or displaying error messages that prevented them from proceeding. The OPSU's stated goal is to guarantee free, quality public education as a fundamental right, but the ongoing technical glitches are hindering students' ability to exercise this right.
