The club expects Thompson to return to Russia shortly to participate in preseason training. The Russian Premier League is scheduled to commence in the final week of July, making his timely return crucial for the team's preparations. Thompson transferred from Colo Colo to Orenburg at the beginning of 2024.

During the recently concluded season, Thompson performed well for Orenburg, registering five goals and six assists in 31 matches. However, his continued presence in Chile has fueled rumors about a possible move back to Colo Colo.
