Organizations stay silent as Brazil’s federal police chief lacks backing amid Master case crisis

Federal Police Director-General Andrei Rodrigues has received no public show of support from the organizations representing the force’s officers, even after banker Daniel Vorcaro threatened to make a plea bargain implicating him.

Vorcaro accused the Federal Police of rejecting his proposed plea deal to shield Rodrigues because of a possible relationship between them. He offered no evidence for the claim. His testimony took place on the 27th at the office of Supreme Court Justice André Mendonça, at the request of his defense and without Federal Police participation. His lawyers said he faced threats from police officers.

The silence from the National Association of Federal Police Delegates and the National Federation of Federal Police Officers has continued since tensions emerged between the Federal Police and the Supreme Court in the Master and INSS cases. Estadão described the lack of a statement defending Rodrigues as a notable sign of distrust within the force.

The reports, produced from the beginning of August as tensions intensified, were delivered in physical form to Justice Alexandre de Moraes under an order issued in the fake-news inquiry. The documents state that they have no evidentiary value and cannot support an accusation. They were intended for the Federal Police chief’s internal use, not for inclusion in a case.

Separately, messages exchanged between Moraes and Vorcaro show the banker repeatedly asking the justice to intervene with Rodrigues and Attorney General Paulo Gonet to stop investigations into Master. Two days before his first arrest, Vorcaro asked Moraes whether the situation could be reversed through Gonet or Rodrigues.
