Osimhen treatment ends today, eyes return in UCL

Victor Osimhen hopes his treatment will finish in time for Galatasaray’s UEFA Champions League match against Sporting Lisbon next week, after a groin injury forced him out of Friday’s 3-2 win over Istanbul Başakşehir.

The Nigerian striker left the game in the 33rd minute after scoring Galatasaray’s opening goal with a shot into the top corner, set up by Lucas Torreira. Barış Alper Yılmaz replaced him.

Galatasaray said examinations detected strain and pain in Osimhen’s right adductor muscle group. The Turkish champions also said they were carrying out advanced assessments, including an MRI scan, on Osimhen and teammate Mario Lemina, with the evaluations expected to finish on Sunday.

Osimhen said he had not wanted to risk himself and would like to play against Sporting Lisbon if the coach considers him fit. His availability is also being watched by Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle before Nigeria’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau.
