Oslo Named World's Most Expensive Student City, But Ranks High Overall

Oslo has been identified as the world's most expensive city for students, according to a recent ranking by the organization QS. The Norwegian capital ranked last in the 'affordability' category, primarily due to its high cost of living.

However, despite its affordability challenges, Oslo achieved an overall 13th place in the ranking of the best cities for students. This overall score reflects other crucial factors considered by QS, such as safety, sustainability, and general attractiveness for student life. The ranking requires cities to have at least 250,000 inhabitants and two universities listed in the QS World University Rankings.

Other Nordic cities also performed well in the overall ranking. Copenhagen secured third place, while Helsinki came in fifth. QS highlighted that the Nordic region offers a rare combination of safety, sustainability, and attractiveness for students. This suggests that while living costs may be high, the quality of life and educational environment are significant draws.

Seoul, South Korea, topped the overall list of best cities for students. The report also noted that Nordic countries have recently introduced tuition fees for students from outside the EU and EEA, further impacting the financial considerations for international students.
