Osun Election: AAC Candidate Pledges to Return Governance to the People

Olajide Esan, the governorship candidate for the African Action Congress (AAC) in Nigeria's Osun State, has vowed to restore governance to the people if he wins the upcoming election. Esan articulated his vision during a town hall event, emphasizing a commitment to accountability and increased citizen participation.

Esan asserted that Osun State suffers from a deficit of genuine leadership, despite having numerous politicians. If I would be going into my vision, what is important to me is to give governance back to the people, because instead of leaders to be serving the people in Nigeria, especially in Osun State, it is the people who are serving the leaders.

He accused politicians of capitalizing on poverty and other societal issues, promising that his administration would reverse this trend. A key proposal is the creation of an "Osun Resident Database" to provide the government with accurate information for better planning and service delivery. Additionally, Esan plans to implement a financial dashboard, enabling residents to monitor government spending and demand explanations for any mismanagement of public funds.

Part of the plans we have, we have what I call Osun resident database. This database will give us the opportunity to have the information of Osun residents and to also be able to put the right things in place for Osun people.

Where is our one naira?" he questioned, highlighting his commitment to transparency. Esan believes these measures will foster greater accountability, discouraging politicians from treating governance as a lucrative business and ensuring that government becomes more responsive to the needs of its citizens.
