Osun Election: Adeleke condemns arrest of Osun PDP chair, demands release

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has strongly condemned the arrest of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman, Sunday Bisi, labeling it an "abuse of law enforcement" and an "attack on the democratic process."

Hon. Bisi was accosted in his home in Ilesa shortly after he returned after voting and whisked away to yet-to-be-known location.

According to a statement issued by Adeleke's spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Bisi was apprehended at his residence in Ilesa shortly after casting his vote in the ongoing Osun governorship election. Governor Adeleke demanded Bisi's immediate release, noting that the reasons for his arrest remain unclear.

Up till this moment, no one has been availed the reason for his arrest, which indicates that the APC is working in cohort with compromised security agents to keep people away from monitoring results at the various collation centres.

Adeleke alleged that the arrest is part of a broader scheme orchestrated by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in collaboration with "compromised security agents." He claims the objective is to prevent PDP supporters from effectively monitoring the collation of election results at various centers. "This latest sweep on my supporters... is part of a broader plan to give the APC unhindered access to change results at collation centres and upturn our wins at the poll," the statement read.

The governor characterized the alleged development as an "assault on democracy" and urged those involved to cease using state institutions to subvert the will of the voters. He called for the prompt release of Bisi and other individuals he described as "political prisoners" within the state, emphasizing that elections should reflect the free mandate of the people without coercion.
