Osun election: APC and PDP file petitions challenging Adeleke’s re-election

Two rival parties have formally challenged Ademola Adeleke’s re-election as governor of Osun State, opening the next stage of the state’s election dispute process.

The Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal displayed petitions from the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party on its notice board in Osogbo on Monday. The documents were dated September 5, 2026.

The APC petition, filed by its candidate Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, names Adeleke, the Accord Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission as respondents. The PDP petition, filed by Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola, names Adeleke, INEC and the Accord Party.

Tribunal secretary Pefe Belemore confirmed that the petitions had been filed. The filings are expected to lead to service of court processes on the parties and subsequent proceedings before the tribunal. Accord Party officials and members of its legal team were also seen at the tribunal premises.

Adeleke, who contested for the Accord Party, was declared the winner of the August 15 election with 511,067 votes. Oyebamiji finished second for the APC with 444,815 votes.
