Osun Election: Bola Oyebamiji - strengths, weaknesses

Bola Oyebamiji, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the Osun State governorship election, is reportedly consolidating support through strategic alliances and endorsements ahead of the polls. With 2,339,233 residents registered to vote, the election is heating up, and Oyebamiji appears to be gaining momentum.

A significant boost to Oyebamiji's bid comes from the defection of federal lawmakers from the Osun-East senatorial district. These politicians, including Senator Francis Fadahunsi and Representatives Wole Oke, Sanya Omirin, and Taofeek Ajilesoro, are considered major political figures. Their move to the APC is expected to sway voters in their respective areas, potentially altering the electoral landscape, especially in districts where the incumbent governor, Adeleke, previously secured strong votes.

While Governor Adeleke reportedly enjoys support from royal fathers, Oyebamiji's campaign is actively engaging with markets and traders. He is also capitalizing on accusations of nepotism leveled against the incumbent, positioning himself as a candidate for all residents. The APC has reportedly established 30 vote canvassers for each of the state's 3,763 polling units, signaling a well-organized grassroots effort.

Oyebamiji is particularly expected to perform well in Osun-East, bolstered by the influence of figures like Senator Fadahunsi and Representatives Omirin and Oke. Despite Senator Iyiola Omisore's continued affiliation with the APC, some of his former loyalists are reportedly aligning with the party's candidate. The deputy governorship candidate, Engr. Kayode Adereti, also brings significant influence, having previously challenged a current House of Representatives member who has now joined the APC.
