Osun Election: Governor Adeleke Urges Tinubu to Ensure Security Agencies Protect Vote Collation

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to direct deployed security agencies to safeguard the ongoing governorship election results collation. Adeleke voiced concerns over alleged efforts by "desperate and rejected" politicians to incite chaos during the crucial aggregation of votes.

Seeking a second term, Adeleke implored Tinubu to "use his good office" to issue a stern warning to the heads of security agencies tasked with protecting the electoral process. He stated that reports of attempts to hijack or disrupt collation centers are "deeply concerning and unacceptable," especially given the significant security presence aimed at ensuring a peaceful and credible election.

The governor stressed the importance of reaffirming the president's commitment to ensuring that Osun State residents' votes are counted and that the election outcome genuinely reflects their choices. He also urged the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and other agencies to strictly follow the president's directive and provide necessary support to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for a transparent result.

This appeal follows a series of alarms raised by Adeleke regarding electoral violence and malpractice on election day. He had previously accused security agencies of bias and intimidation during voting hours, alleging attempts by the APC to rig the election and police tear-gassing voters in some areas. Adeleke faces a challenge from 14 other candidates, including the APC's Bola Oyebamiji, in what is described as a keenly contested poll.
