Osun Election: PSC commends police for professionalism, orderliness

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has lauded the Nigeria Police Force for its high level of professionalism, orderliness, and cordiality displayed during the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election. According to an interim report released by the PSC, its assessment of police conduct across the state indicated that officers were generally courteous, approachable, and professional while performing their election duties.

The PSC's monitoring exercise spanned polling units across all three senatorial districts, Osun Central, Osun East, and Osun West, and all 30 local government areas. The exercise evaluated police deployment, professionalism, adherence to election duty guidelines, inter-agency collaboration, and the overall conduct of officers.

Overall, the Nigeria Police Force exhibited a high level of professionalism, orderliness and cordiality during the election.

The report found police deployment to be adequate and strategic, with an average of four officers assigned to each polling unit. Osun Central averaged three officers per unit, while Osun East and Osun West each had an average of five officers per unit. The PSC also observed the presence of personnel from other security agencies, including the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Department of State Services (DSS), and others, who complemented the police efforts.

DIG (Dr) Taiwo Lakanu (rtd.), leader of the PSC Monitoring Team, expressed satisfaction with the police conduct. He commended the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for an effective deployment strategy and specifically acknowledged the roles of DIG Isyaku Mohammed and CP Samuel Erale Etaifo. The PSC's monitoring teams reported that officers across the senatorial districts were consistently courteous, approachable, and professional, maintaining order and responding appropriately to inquiries, contributing significantly to the election's peaceful conduct.
