Osun election will send message to APC - Adeleke

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke declared that the upcoming August 15 election transcends a mere political contest, presenting an opportunity for the state's populace to convey a strong message to the All Progressives Congress (APC) regarding the necessity of respecting democratic choices.

In a statement shared on his official X handle, Adeleke accused former Osun State Governor and current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, along with the Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Bola Oyebamiji, of leveraging their positions within the federal ruling party against Osun State. The governor asserted that these alleged actions are intended to penalize the people of Osun for electing his administration in the 2022 governorship election.

"The August 15 election is not just about winning. It is about securing a decisive victory that sends a clear and unmistakable message to the APC that the people of Osun State must always be respected, their democratic choice must be honoured, and no one should seek to punish them for exercising their constitutional right to vote," Adeleke stated. He further claimed that such federal interference has negatively impacted the welfare of workers and posed threats to the livelihoods of civil servants, traders, artisans, and other residents.

Governor Adeleke urged the residents to actively participate in the election, characterizing the poll as a crucial moment to reaffirm the people's will and defend democratic values within the state.
