Osun new bridge suffers defect, Accord, APC trade blame

The Lameco flyover in Osogbo, Osun State, which was recently commissioned, has developed a structural defect, prompting the state government to close one lane to traffic on Friday. Videos circulating on social media revealed visible cracks on the affected section of the bridge.

Victor Akande, Chairman of the Accord Party in Osun State, attributed the incident to vandalism by opposition elements, specifically the APC. He suggested the act was a calculated attempt to undermine the current administration's achievements ahead of the upcoming governorship election. Akande urged security agencies to investigate and prosecute those responsible, regardless of their political affiliation, and called on residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities around public infrastructure.

These acts are not ordinary criminal activities but appear to be part of a calculated attempt by desperate elements in the opposition APC to undermine and discredit the remarkable achievements of the current administration ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.

Conversely, the Osun APC Governorship Campaign Council expressed alarm over the defect, citing preliminary findings that indicate serious structural issues. The council's Head of Media and Publicity, Remi Omowaiye, stated that confirmed reports show visible signs of structural failure, including a deep pothole and other distress points. The APC warned that these developments, occurring less than a month after the flyover's commissioning on July 1, pose a direct threat to public safety and advised motorists to exercise extreme caution or avoid the bridge until independent experts certify it safe.

Governor Ademola Adeleke commissioned the Lameco flyover on July 1. The Accord Party emphasized the administration's commitment to infrastructural development, asserting that vandalism would not detract from these achievements. The APC, however, questioned the project's construction quality and integrity, urging for an independent safety assessment.
