Osun poll: Adeleke’s camp seeks honours for victims of electoral violence

The Imole Campaign Council, representing Governor Ademola Adeleke's re-election bid, has proposed state honors and official recognition for individuals who have suffered from electoral violence and killings across Osun State. This gesture aims to acknowledge the sacrifices made by supporters of Governor Adeleke, who the council alleges have been attacked due to their political affiliation.

The last few weeks have also witnessed the persecution and arbitrary detention of over 100 other focal campaigners of Adeleke by the police, in a desperate attempt to cripple grassroots mobilisation for the governor’s re-election on August 15, 2026.

In a statement signed by its spokesman, Pelumi Olajengbesi, the council detailed instances of alleged violence. They claimed that several members of the Accord Party and grassroots supporters backing Adeleke's re-election have been killed, injured, abducted, or detained. The statement specifically named individuals like Kolade Eluyera, Ezekiel Olapade, Ajayi Rogba, and Timilehin Oni, alleging they were killed for their support. Additionally, over 100 campaign coordinators and supporters are claimed to have been arrested and detained recently.

The campaign council condemned what it described as the "assassination, persecution and intimidation" of its members. They urged the Nigeria Police Force to maintain impartiality and professionalism in its duties. While acknowledging that no recognition can fully compensate for the losses suffered by victims and their families, the council stressed the importance of according state honors to those who have made significant sacrifices, even the "supreme price," against oppression while supporting the governor's re-election.

Although no recognition or compensation can measure up to the level of sacrifice of the victims of APC-sponsored attacks, the Imole Campaign Council finds it imperative and deserving that persons who have paid different kinds of sacrifices, even the supreme price, against oppression and repression, whilst demonstrating their support for the governor’s re-election, be accorded state honours.

The council stated that details regarding the proposed state honors would be communicated in due course. They maintained that the sacrifices made by these individuals in support of the governor's re-election campaign are not in vain.
