Osun Poll: NSCDC Deploys 10,210 Personnel, Tactical Units

Ahead of the Osun State governorship election, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has mobilized a significant force of 10,210 personnel and specialized tactical units. This deployment is part of a broader inter-agency effort to guarantee a peaceful, free, and credible electoral process.

The NSCDC Commandant General, Prof. Ahmed Audi, ordered the deployment, drawing personnel from 10 neighboring state commands and specialized formations. The objective is to bolster security operations across Osun State, ensuring the protection of voters, electoral officials, sensitive election materials, observers, and journalists from potential threats and intimidation.

Our personnel have been properly briefed on the need to be professional, neutral and respectful in the discharge of their duties.

Specialized units, including the CG’s Special Intelligence Squad, SWAT Unit, and K9 Unit, will be deployed to enhance intelligence gathering, crime prevention, crowd control, and other election-related security tasks. Senior NSCDC officials, including the Deputy Commandant General for Operations, will be stationed in Osun State to oversee the operations and ensure effective coordination.

Commandant General Audi stressed the importance of professionalism and neutrality among the deployed personnel. He issued a stern warning to political thugs and criminal elements, stating that any activity aimed at jeopardizing the election process would be met with the full force of the law as prescribed in the Electoral Act. The Corps pledged to work collaboratively with other security agencies to maintain order and ensure the integrity of the election.

In collaboration with other security agencies on election duty, [the NSCDC] will not tolerate any activity intended to jeopardise the election process; criminal-minded persons and political thugs willing to disrupt the peaceful conduct of the election would face the wrath of the law as prescribed in the Electoral Act.
