A former spokesperson for Nigeria's ruling party has interpreted a recent gubernatorial election victory as a significant display of the electorate's power and a potential harbinger for the 2027 general elections.

Timi Frank, formerly the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), stated that Governor Ademola Adeleke's win in the Osun State governorship election demonstrates that voters can overcome political pressure and intimidation. He issued a statement in Abuja on Monday, asserting that the election results serve as a warning to political parties and candidates preparing for the 2027 presidential race.

As Ambassador for the United Liberation Movement for West Papua to East Africa and the Middle East, Frank also called for opposition political parties to set aside their differences and forge a common strategy for 2027. He believes a unified opposition, coupled with engaged voters and effective party structures, could challenge the incumbent APC, citing the Osun result as evidence.

He commended the people of Osun State for their "political ingenuity," particularly their ability to resist inducements and vote according to their conscience. "I commend the people of Osun for this new political ingenuity, where money is taken, yet still voted for the candidate of their choice. After all, the money belongs to us as citizens, as it was taken from government coffers," Frank added. He urged Nigerians to remain peaceful and vigilant in defending their votes through lawful means.
