Otti plans Abia railway, ramps up other projects

The recent State Executive Council meeting highlighted a forward-thinking agenda focused on transportation, urban renewal, and housing development, with a new railway project in Umuahia taking center stage.

The proposed train station will be located adjacent to the Umuahia Central Bus Terminal and will feature a modern urban railway corridor integrated with retail and commercial activities.

The proposed Umuahia train station, slated to be located near the Central Bus Terminal, is envisioned as more than just a transit point. It's designed as an integrated urban rail corridor, incorporating retail and commercial activities, which promises to stimulate economic growth and improve connectivity. This vision aligns with the broader goal of positioning Umuahia as a leading city in Nigeria with efficient public transportation systems.

All arrangements for the relocation have been concluded.

Beyond the railway, the administration is actively pursuing urban renewal projects, including the relocation of traders to designated markets and the completion of the Umuahia Central Bus Terminal. The upcoming launch of the Abia Green Shuttle Bus Scheme, complete with charging stations and ticketing points, further signals a dedication to providing accessible and modern public transport. These initiatives, alongside groundwork for a Federal Housing Authority estate, reflect a holistic approach to development that aims to improve the quality of life for Abia's residents and attract investment.
