Over 1,000 National Aquatic Athletes Participate in Indonesian National Aquatic Championships 2026

As Republika, we are proud to highlight the significant gathering of aquatic talent at the Indonesian National Aquatic Championships 2026, currently underway at the Gelora Bung Karno Aquatic Stadium in Jakarta. This prestigious event brings together over 1,000 athletes from across 24 provinces, showcasing the depth and breadth of aquatic sports in our nation. The competition spans four disciplines: swimming, water polo, diving, and artistic swimming, demonstrating the comprehensive development of aquatic sports in Indonesia.

Wisnu Wardhana, Deputy Chairman for Achievement and Sports Science of the Indonesian Aquatic Federation (PB Akuatik Indonesia), emphasized the challenges but also the commitment to making this event a success amidst global uncertainties. He stressed the importance of the championships in building a robust database of potential aquatic athletes and serving as a vital tool for evaluating and developing our national training programs (Pelatnas). This event is not just a competition; it's a strategic platform for identifying and nurturing future champions.

Through the National Championships, we can have a new database of Indonesian aquatic athletes who have great potential and can be used for evaluating promotion and degradation of the national training camp.

Furthermore, Wardhana highlighted that this championship is a critical selection phase for the Indonesian contingent aiming for the 48th SEA Age Group Championships in Malaysia and other Asian age-group competitions. It also serves as a crucial evaluation for the 2026 Asian Games and the formation of a shadow team for the 2027 SEA Games. From our perspective at Republika, this event is a testament to Indonesia's dedication to sports excellence and its ambition to make a mark on the international stage.
