Over 10kg Crocodile Captured in Dong Nai After 20-Day Search

After a diligent search spanning over 20 days, local authorities and residents in Dak O commune, Dong Nai province, have successfully captured a crocodile weighing more than 10 kilograms. The reptile was found in a stream near the Cay Xanh bridge, bringing relief to the community that had been on edge.

The capture occurred on the evening of August 17, when the crocodile was spotted in the stream. The functional units of Dak O commune, in coordination with residents from Bu Xia village, quickly organized to apprehend the animal. Following its capture, the crocodile was weighed and confirmed to be over 10 kg. The relevant authorities, including the Economic Department and the Commune Military Command, worked with local forest rangers to transfer the crocodile to the Bu Gia Map National Park's Center for Information, Tourism, Rescue, and Conservation for proper care and management.

The incident began on July 25 when several residents working in fields near the Cay Xanh bridge reported seeing an animal swimming in the stream, which they suspected to be a crocodile. This prompted local authorities, led by Chairman of the Dak O Commune People's Committee, Nguyen Tan Luc, to mobilize a significant search effort. Over a hundred people, including commune police, military personnel, forest rangers, and local villagers, participated in the search. They employed various methods, including setting bait in areas where unusual tracks were observed along the stream.

Local authorities also proactively disseminated information through the community's radio system and social media platforms like Zalo and Facebook. They issued warnings advising residents to exercise caution, protect themselves and their families, and avoid approaching the stream area unless absolutely necessary, particularly for children, to prevent any unfortunate incidents. The successful capture of the crocodile has significantly alleviated the anxiety and fear that had gripped the local population for more than three weeks.
