Over 60 Mexico City Police Officers Arrested, 1,074 Dismissed in Under Two Years

Mexico City's police force is undergoing significant internal scrutiny, with 60 officers arrested on warrants for alleged criminal acts between October 5, 2024, and July 31, 2026. This figure highlights ongoing efforts to address misconduct within the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC).

Pablo Vázquez Camacho, the head of the capital's police, reported that in addition to the arrests, 1,074 officers were dismissed during the same period. The SSC's Commission of Honor and Justice also issued 3,921 disciplinary sanctions. Further measures included 592 changes in assignment, 17 commission terminations, and 50 suspensions, indicating a broad range of disciplinary actions.

To bolster the force's integrity and effectiveness, the SSC is enhancing its recruitment and training programs. On July 25, 426 new officers joined the ranks, including 399 focused on community policing and 27 specializing in prison security. The Canine Unit of the Industrial Banking Police also celebrated its 29th anniversary on July 8, boasting 17 dogs and 16 expert handlers, showcasing specialized units within the force. Camacho stated the objective is to equip officers with better tools for their duties.
