Oyinlola’s Oyebamiji endorsement won’t stop Adeleke’s victory — Accord

The Osun State chapter of the Accord Party has stated that the endorsement of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate by a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, will not affect Governor Ademola Adeleke's re-election. The Accord Party chairman, Victor Akande, alleged that Oyinlola, along with former Secretary to the State Government Fatai Akinbade and former Commissioner Tajudeen Oladipo, had previously worked against Adeleke's election in 2018 and 2022.

Osun Accord remains ever strong and Governor Adeleke remains unbeatable in the forthcoming polls.

Akande described Oyinlola's decision as politically inconsequential, asserting that the group rejoined Adeleke after his 2022 victory and benefited from his administration. He characterized their current move back to the APC as opportunistic, stating, "As another cycle of election is knocking again, they opportunistically moved back to a party that is killing and maiming Osun people." The Accord Party chairman insisted that their movement would have no effect on the governor's re-election.

In 2018 and 2022, they voted and worked against the governor. They failed to stop the governor’s victory. After they failed, they rejoined the governor and enjoyed positive treatment from the administration whose emergence they did not support.

The Accord Party chairman further claimed that the defectors lack the political influence in their local governments to sway voters against Governor Adeleke, who he said is widely recognized for positively transforming Osun State. He characterized the defectors as "political ingrates and opportunists" in the eyes of the grassroots.

As another cycle of election is knocking again, they opportunistically moved back to a party that is killing and maiming Osun people. So their movement has no political effect on the re-election of Mr Governor.

This statement comes after a faction of the PDP, led by Oyinlola, declared support for APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji for the upcoming Saturday poll. Oyinlola had cited dissatisfaction with Governor Adeleke's administration and a lack of inclusion as reasons for his faction's decision.

Go to their local governments; they lack the political capital to swing the people against a governor who is widely acknowledged locally and internationally to have positively transformed Osun State.
