Oyo APC crisis deepens as six governorship aspirants reject Sharafadeen Alli’s candidacy

A significant rift has emerged within the Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as six of the party's eleven governorship aspirants have rejected Senator Sharafadeen Alli's nomination as the gubernatorial candidate for the 2027 general election.

The dissenting aspirants, including Engr. Hakeem Alao and Dr Ayobami Lam-Adesina, contend that the APC has not lawfully produced a candidate. They assert that the selection process did not adhere to the provisions of the Electoral Act and the party's internal guidelines.

We have presented our grievances to the reconciliation committee and made our position clear. As far as we are are concerned, the APC does not have a governorship candidate at this moment because the provisions of the Electoral Act have not been fulfilled.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Engr. Hakeem Alao stated that their grievances have been presented to the party's reconciliation committee. He emphasized that, from their perspective, the APC currently lacks a valid governorship candidate because the necessary legal and procedural requirements have not been met. Alao added that whoever emerges through a lawful and transparent process would receive their support.

This internal conflict underscores the growing divisions within the opposition party as it prepares for the 2027 governorship election. The objections raised by the six aspirants are expected to intensify internal consultations as the APC attempts to reconcile aggrieved stakeholders and present a united front.
